Skam

Formed in 2011, this Leicester, England power trio fuse hard rock and crunchy post-grunge, while always prioritizing their groove. Lead vocalist and guitarist Steve Hill and bass player Matt Gilmore -- formerly of punk band the A.I.D.S. -- had played together in bands for years before they co-founded SKAM. Their original drummer's forename was Kieran so, while choosing a non-genre-specific moniker, they settled on one which took an initial from each member, Steve, Kieran, and Matt. SKAM would often hang out at the local rock club, Alcatraz, and their earliest gigs were in support of classic rock tribute acts such as ZZ Stop and Limehouse Lizzy. By the time of sessions for their debut, It's Come to This, Ray Peverill became their drummer. Produced by Matt Elliss at Axis Studios in Doncaster and released on Copro Records, the album was a slow burner; the band continued to promote it for two years and released "Massacre" as a March 2013 single. 2014's Peacemaker was issued on Off Yer Rocka Recordings before the band took time out from the studio to focus on perfecting their live set. By the time of their 2017 appearances at Wildfire and Ramblin' Man Fair, Peverill had departed and was replaced by Steve's brother, Neal Hill, an accomplished multi-instrumentalist who specialized in drumming. That November, SKAM self-released a concept-heavy third LP, The Amazing Memoirs of Geoffrey Goddard, tracing the story of a time-traveling 1930s test pilot. The same year brought the concert document Live before the band returned to Scotland for Wildfire in 2018. Following a period of heavy livestreaming to stay connected with their fans, the acoustic Lo-Fi was issued in May 2020. This commitment led the Golden Robot subsidiary, X-Ray Records, to take SKAM under its wing, issuing the 2021 EPs Intra and Venous -- and their accompanying singles -- in neatly designed packaging with matching artwork.
