Sheikh Haikel

Sheikh Haikel is a Singaporean rapper, radio DJ, and actor of Arabic descent. Born as "Sheikh Haikel bin Sheikh Salim Bajrai" on October 10, 1975, he became interested in rap music at 9 years old, after receiving a Run DMC cassette from his mother. He then joined Construction Sight, one of Singapore's first rap groups, while still a teenager. Construction Sight enjoyed a brief period of mainstream popularity in 1991, when the duo won the grand championship of the first-ever Asia Bagus competition. Although the group's time in the spotlight proved to be short, Sheikl Haikel maintained a successful career in the entertainment industry, appearing in the hit movie Army Daze in 1996 and becoming one of the island's most-recognized DJs after joining the staff of 98.7 FM. He also rebranded himself as a hip-hop solo artist with 2002's For Sure. A second solo album, For Sure, Too, followed in 2003, with the single "Witulah" becoming a Number 1 hit on the Malaysian charts. After a brief hiatus, he resumed his music career with 2010's 10.10.10, which featured the single "Yang Teristimewa," and released a handful of stand-alone singles during the rest of the decade, with highlights including 2011's "Eh Lah," 2013's "Better Than Yesterday," and 2016's "I Got an Anthem."
