Nimbus Sextet

A modern jazz group from Glasgow, Nimbus Sextet have skillfully drawn from styles ranging from groove-oriented '70s fusion to Bulgarian folk music. After a couple short-form releases, they issued their debut album, Dreams Fulfilled, in 2020. Leader and keyboardist Joe Nichols planted the seeds for the group with Edinburgh University classmates Alex Palmer on drums and Mischa Stevens on bass. The rhythm section were augmented by trumpeter Euan Allardice and saxophonist/clarinetist Martin Fell in 2018, the year the ensemble made their recorded debut with the self-released double A-side "Seance"/"Arabesco," featuring guitarist Manuel Brazuna. In August 2020, Nimbus Sextet affirmed their new association with the long-running Acid Jazz label by releasing the single "Trap Door," and two months later followed up with the full-length Dreams Fulfilled. For these recordings, the group were joined by Luca Pisanu on guitar, while Wayne A. Dickson served as producer and co-writer. Guitarist James Mackay was added to the lineup before the album's arrival.
