British soprano Mary Bevan attended Trinity College, Cambridge, where she concentrated in Anglo-Saxon, Norse, and Celtic literature, and she received her vocal training at the Royal Academy of Music. She has performed at the English National Opera in roles that include Rebecca in Nico Muhly's Two Boys, Yum-Yum in Gilbert & Sullivan's The Mikado, Zerlina in Mozart's Don Giovanni, and Barbarina in Le Nozze di Figaro. She sang at the Royal Opera House, creating the role of Lila in David Bruce's The Firework-Maker's Daughter. She has performed for Ilford Arts, the Garsington Opera, and the BBC Proms. Bevan has also sung in concert, appearing in performances of Bach's St. Matthew Passion, Handel's Israel in Egypt, Purcell's Dido and Aeneas, and Rutter's Requiem. Bevan is an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music, and she has won the Royal Philharmonic Society's Young Artist award, as well as the U.K. Critics' Circle Award. Bevan's father is music director David Bevan, and soprano Sophie Bevan is her sister. She has recorded for Signum Classics, Delphian, Albion, and Champs Hill Records. ~ Blair Sanderson
