Liza Ferschtman

Dutch violinist Liza Ferschtman was raised in a family of musicians, notably including her father, cellist Dmitri Ferschtman, and her mother, pianist Mila Baslawskaya. She began studying music at five with violinist Philipp Hirschhorn, and continued her studies with Ivry Gitlis, Igor Oistrakh, and Aaron Rosand. She attended the Royal Conservatory of The Hague, where she worked with Qui van Woerdekom, and she continued with Herman Krebbers at the Conservatory of Amsterdam, Ida Kavafian at the Curtis Institute, and David Takeno at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. She has performed with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, the National Orchestra of Belgium, the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra, the Schleswig-Holstein Festival Orchestra, the Bremen Philharmonic Orchestra, the Prague Philharmonia, the Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra, and the Nordwestdeutsche Philharmonie. She is also an avid chamber musician, notably performing Beethoven's complete Violin Sonatas on tour across Europe with pianist Inon Barnatan. She is the artistic director of the Delft Chamber Music Festival, and she introduced vocal and choral music to its programs, as well as contemporary works. A 2014 performance with members of the Beethoven Orchester Bonn at the Beethoven House featured works by Schubert, Dohnányi, Kurtág, and Brahms, and in 2016 she gave a critically acclaimed performance of Biber's Rosary Sonatas, employing seven violins with different tunings. She has recorded for Brilliant Classics, CPO, and Challenge Classics.
