E SENS

Kang Min-ho, widely known as E Sens (이센스), is a trailblazing figure in the South Korean hip-hop scene. Born in Daegu on February 9, 1987, he faced early hardships, losing his father at age 9 and dropping out of high school at 17. Amidst these trials, he found solace in hip-hop, an interest that would ultimately shape his life. His early successes, including a rap contest victory in 2002, set the stage for his rise to fame. Choosing the moniker E Sens (a shortened version of "Essayistic Sense"), he made his official debut in 2007 with the mixtape Blanky Munn's Unknown Verses, followed by a second one titled New Blood, Rapper Vol.1 a year later. In 2009, he and Simon Dominic founded the acclaimed rap duo Supreme Team, whose studio debut Supremier climbed to Number 3 on South Korea's Circle Chart. The pair went on to achieve critical acclaim and become one of the top rap acts in the country, earning the Best New Male Group award at the 2009 Mnet Asian Music Awards and the Hip Hop Award at the 2010 Golden Disk Awards. Despite their success, the duo disbanded in 2013, paving the way for E Sens' thriving solo career. E Sens' first studio album, The Anecdote, was released in 2015 while the rapper served a prison sentence for marijuana use. It proved hugely successful, reaching Number 2 in South Korea and winning Album of the Year at the 2016 Korean Music Awards. Released in 2019, his sophomore effort The Stranger also cracked the Top 5 of the Circle Albums Chart, peaking at Number 4. Following an extended hiatus from his recording schedule, E Sens finally returned in 2023 with Moneybox, which hit Number 43 on the South Korean streaming charts.
