Christina & Michelle Naughton

Christina Naughton is best known for duo piano performances with her twin sister, Michelle Naughton. The pair were signed to Warner Classics in 2016 and have released several albums. Christina and Michelle Naughton, who are identical twins, were born in Princeton, New Jersey, in 1988. The family moved to Madison, Wisconsin, when the twins were young, and both began piano studies with their mother at the age of four. As high school students, they performed separately and planned to pursue individual careers. However, when they were 18, they performed a duo piano concert at a promoter's request and found that they liked the results. They studied as duo pianists at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, graduating in 2011 with the Festorazzi Prize. By that time, their performing career had already begun in spectacular fashion with a recital at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., and a critically acclaimed appearance with the Philadelphia Orchestra. Those appearances were followed by a recital at the Herkulessaal in Munich, Germany, in 2011. The sisters went on to the Juilliard School in New York for a master's degree, studying with Joseph Kalichstein, who remarked that they were like one person playing. Christina and Michelle Naughton have appeared with leading orchestras in the U.S. and abroad, including the Buffalo Philharmonic, the Nashville Symphony, and the Hong Kong Philharmonic. Their recital appearances have included those at the Chamber Music Society of Detroit, the Kammermusiksaal of the Berlin Philharmonic, and the Naumburg Band Shell in Central Park in New York. The sisters recorded an album of Piano Duets for Orfeo in 2012, and a major breakthrough came with their signing to the Warner Classics label in 2016. That year they released the album Visions, featuring music by Adams, Bach, and Messiaen; it was followed by American Postcards in 2019. Also in 2019, the sisters received an Avery Fisher Career Development Grant.
