Chapel Choir of the Royal Hospital Chelsea
Langue disponible : anglaisThe Chapel Choir of the Royal Hospital, Chelsea is a professional choir, consisting of twelve singers chosen for their technical skill and exceptional musicality. The Royal Hospital was founded in 1682 by Charles II and opened in 1692 as a retirement home for army pensioners. The choir is based in the hospital's Wren Chapel, which was designed by architect Christopher Wren in 1687 and consecrated in 1691. In its early days, the choir sang at two church services daily, though its modern equivalent sings Matins every Sunday morning, and is otherwise engaged with concert activity, including carol services. Led by director and organist William Vann, the group has performed with many leading ensembles, including The Sixteen, The Tallis Scholars, Stile Antico, and the Monteverdi Choir. The Chapel Choir recorded Carols from Chelsea on the Somm label, which was released in 2016. In 2018, the choir released three albums, Earth and Sky: Vaughan Williams Choral Premieres and A Vaughan Williams Christmas on Albion, as well as In Remembrance: Choral Music by Ireland, Holst, Parry, Elgar, Fauré, Venables on Somm.
