Bruno Boterf

Bruno Boterf is a high tenor well-known on the French early music scene. After studying musicology and art history, Boterf concentrated on a singing career. He became a regular performer of Baroque opera under the batons of Marc Minkowski, William Christie, Jean-Claude Malgoire, and Hervé Niquet, but he also was singing Renaissance music with groups such as Les Witches, Akademia, Ensemble européen William Byrd, and La Fenice, and contemporary music with the Groupe Vocal de France and Ensemble 2E2M. He was a member of the Ensemble Clément Janequin for two decades, leaving in 2007 to concentrate on teaching at the Tours Conservatoire and founding his own vocal ensemble, Ludus Modalis, which focuses on precise period performance of pre-Baroque, polyphonic music. Ludus Modalis recordings appear on the Ramée label, and Boterf may be heard with various ensembles on Alpha, Erato, CBS, Audivis, and other labels.
