Amanda Forsythe is an American soprano who specializes in Baroque vocal music and opera. Raised in New York, she was a graduate of Cold Spring Harbor High School. She attended Vassar College, graduating in 1998 with a degree in music, and she pursued graduate vocal studies with Mary Ann Hart and Susan Clickner at the New England Conservatory of Music. A role in a production at Harvard University led Forsythe to an audition for Martin Pearlman and the Boston Baroque, with whom she made her professional debut in Monteverdi's Orfeo. The winner of several competitions, Forsythe received a fellowship at the Tanglewood Music Center for two seasons, and an apprenticeship at the Ravinia Festival. Forsythe has performed roles in operas by Monteverdi, Handel, Lully, Purcell, Vivaldi, and Gluck, and made a name for herself in Rossini operas. Forsythe has also sung important roles in Osvaldo Golijov's Ainadamar and Peter Eötvös' Angels in America. Forsythe's connections to such ensembles as Apollo's Fire, the Hudson Opera Theater, Opera Boston, Opera Unlimited, the Boston Early Music Festival, and the Harvard Early Music Society, as well as her continuing association with the Boston Baroque, have kept her profile high in early music circles, while she continues to sing in concerts with American symphony orchestras and in European opera productions. Forsythe's The Power of Love, a CD of arias from Handel's operas, was released on Avie in 2015.
