L’album Wisteria du pianiste Steve Kuhn fait référence à un thème d'Art Farmer. Au début des années 60, Kuhn et Steve Swallow ont tous deux joué dans le groupe du grand trompettiste/bugletiste. Depuis, ces deux musiciens ont partagé beaucoup d’expériences et d’enregistrements : Swallow a joué sur le Trance de Kuhn; Kuhn sur les disques Home et So There de Swallow. De son côté, Joey Barron a participé aux albums de Kuhn Remembering Tomorrow et au plus récent et magnifique Mostly Coltrane. Sagesse et nostalgie imprègnent donc Wisteria qui revisite quelques thèmes entendus sur l’album orchestral Promises Kept de Kuhn. Aux côtés des ballades poignantes, figurent également du hard bop, A Likely Story, deux thèmes de Swallow, Dark Glasses et Good Looking, un thème de Carla Bley, Permanent Wave aux résonances gospel et le thème brésilien Romance de Dory Caymmi… © JMP/Qobuz
