Que ceux qui avaient laissé tomber Primal Scream après Screamadelica ravalent leur fierté et écoutent Vanishing Point. Car c’est bien avec cette production de 1997 que le groupe de Bobby Gillepsie retrouve toute sa crédibilité et sa place privilégiée dans les avant-gardes.
L’album est conceptuel et se veut la B.O. d’un road-movie introuvable (« Vanishing Point »). Le prétexte sert des ambiances cinématographiques pleines d’une langueur acide grâce à l’apport de la musique dub. Moins tubesque que Screamadelica, Vanishing Point s’appréhende doucement avec le temps. Le temps de se rendre compte des boucles prodiges de « Trainspotting » ou de la perversité éblouissante de l’instrumentation de « Kowalski ».
À noter également l’apparition de l’ancien bassiste des Stones Roses, Mani, qui apporte un souffle nouveau aux Primal Scream. Vanishing Point ou l'histoire d'une rédemption.
