Depuis From There To Here, son premier disque en tant que leader paru en 1998, Kyle Eastwood a eu le temps de se faire un n… prénom ! Emmené par son illustre père au concert de jazz dès le plus jeune âge, le contrebassiste américain connait ses classiques (hard bop forever !) et a su se les approprier pour créer son propre langage musical. Avec Timepieces, Eastwood Jr. signe une sorte de bel autoportrait musical constitué de reprises goûtues (Herbie Hancock et Horace Silver), de compositions personnelles et de relectures de quelques musiques de films écrites pour papa (Million Dollar Baby, Gran Torino, Invictus, Lettres d'Iwo Jima). Aux côtés du pianiste Andrew McCormack et du trompettiste Quentin Collins, complices depuis près d’une décennie, le contrebassiste américain a enrichi sa musique avec de récentes collaborations, Brandon Allen aux saxophones et Ernesto Simpson à la batterie. Un quintet d’une rare élégance pour défendre une musique qui ne l’est pas moins. © CM/Qobuz
