Special Request's Through the Looking Glass EP channels the strange, paranoid fantasy world of Alice in Wonderland. The first side contains Nina Kraviz's interpretations of previously issued single "Curtain Twitcher." On the main "Alice Was Here" mix, she invites the listener to go mad, first by reciting some of the Mad Hatter's lines, then by incorporating the track's frazzled melody and letting the beat pound hard. Kraviz's other mix of the track is more of a straightforward DJ tool, and isn't anywhere near as exciting. Fortunately, on the other side of the record, Paul Woolford returns to the type of deadly darkside jungle which made the Special Request project seem like such a breath of fresh air. The track's explosive yet steady breaks and heavy tension recall Source Direct and Photek at their best. The EP's final track is Anastasia Kristensen's rework of "Tiresias," which is stompy and static-spiked but also somewhat serene at its center.
