The Division Bell est le 14e album des Pink Floyd enregistré durant l'année 1993, en plusieurs lieux (Astoria recording Studio, Britannia Row Studios, Metropolis Studios, The Creek recording studios) et sorti au Royaume Uni en mars 1994 sur le label EMI Records. Que reste-t-il de Pink Floyd lorsque paraît cet album ? Plus grand chose diront certains fans de la première heure… Mais si, pour ce deuxième album post-Roger Waters, le désormais leader David Gilmour ne brille pas par une originalité débordante, il réussit toutefois à faire rayonner son lyrisme guitaristique dans des compositions nostalgiques comme plus modernes. À l'arrivée, un disque qui se bonifie au fil des années et dont Parlophone publie une version remasterisée par James Guthrie, Joel Plante et Doug Sax à partir des bandes analogiques, à l'occasion du 20e anniversaire de sa sortie. © CM/Qobuz

Objectif Lune : The Dark Side of the Moon

Album phare dans la discographie de Pink Floyd, “The Dark Side of the Moon” est le fruit d’une élaboration relativement lente qui remonte pratiquement à 1968. “A Saucerful of Secrets” (le morceau phare de l’album éponyme) en est, pour Nick Mason, le point de départ. Derrière, “Ummagumma” laissait s’exprimer des personnalités qu’il allait falloir amalgamer pour décrocher la timbale. Pink Floyd poursuivit sa quête du disque idéal avec “Meddle”, sur lequel le groupe accentuait sa maîtrise du travail du studio, et “Atom Heart Mother”, avant d’atteindre le nirvana avec “The Dark Side of the Moon”, dont la perfection ne s’est jamais érodée quarante-cinq ans après sa sortie.

Et Nirvana tua le rock

Il y a trente-quatre ans naissait Nirvana, l’embardée punk la plus inattendue de la fin du XXe siècle. Carrière éclair, tubes éternels, engouement planétaire et épilogue tragique : et si la bande de Kurt Cobain n’était autre que le dernier grand groupe de l’histoire du rock ? Retour sur l’histoire d’un phénomène générationnel sans pareil.

Le trip hop en 10 albums

A l’aube des années 90, la vague trip hop submerge la Grande-Bretagne avec une électro influencée par la musique jamaïcaine et les beats rap. Rythmiques chloroformées et ambiances oppressantes, Massive Attack, Portishead, Tricky, Morcheeba et quelques autres inventent une sorte de soul music sombre, futuriste et parfois très cinématographique. Coup de zoom en 10 albums sur un genre aux frontières floues mais à l’influence nette.
