Pour cet album, Stevie Ray Vaughan choisit d’ajouter deux nouvelles recrues à sa formation : le claviériste Reese Wynans et le saxophoniste Joe Sublett. Le but est alors d’ajouter un peu de soul et de R&B à sa musique blues. Le résultat est le brillant Soul to Soul sur lequel Stevie nous montre une fois de plus toute l’étendue de son talent malgré le combat qu’il mène alors contre ses nombreuses addictions à la drogue. Enregistré dans sa terre natale au Dallas Sound Lab, cet opus mixe des reprises et des compositions originales pour former une œuvre terriblement efficace. L’apogée de cet album est sans doute Life Without You, dans laquelle le texan nous rappelle que, dans le monde de la guitare, il fait partie des plus grands. © LG/Qobuz
