L’Arc de la vie, ou même l’Archet de la vie, voilà ce que le violoncelliste Yo Yo Ma et la pianiste Kathryn Stott entendent tendre tout au long de cet album de courtes pièces, plus ou moins toutes dédiées à la célébration de l’amour sous toutes ses formes – de l’amour parental jusqu’à l’amour céleste de Marie ou de Jésus (Messiaen !), en passant par les amours déçues, la jalousie, les dévorantes flammes de l’amour gitan ou les amours sentimentales-sans-aller-plus-loin de Tchaikovsky… Pour moitié des pièces originales, pour moitié des adaptations ou réécritures (généralement d’après des lieder ou des mélodies), ces petits bijoux représentent le summum de la forme ramassée mais efficace. Yo Yo Ma et Kathryn Stott s’entendent à merveille, le violoncelliste ne cherchant jamais à « faire son soliste » dans soin coin ; rares sont les ententes si parfaites. © SM/Qobuz
