En 1967, après avoir quitté les Walker Brothers (qui n’étaient pas du tout frères), Scott Walker se lança dans une incroyable carrière solo de Sinatra pop, revisitant aussi bien Jacques Brel que Tim Hardin. Ce coffret réunit cinq albums (en Studio Masters 24bts !) de cette parenthèse (vocalement) enchantée. Le songwriter extra-terrestre né au fin fond de l’Ohio atteindra même assez de maturité pour composer seul la totalité des chansons de son chef d’œuvre de 1969 intitulé Scott 4. Instrumentation voluptueuse, à des années lumières des cannons de l’époque, mélodies gorgées de sensualité et paroles flirtant avec poésie ou désabusement, rien de vraiment rock ni foncièrement pop dans les voyages de ce hors la loi sans égal…
