Bien que seul en couverture, le baryton Christian Gerhaher a fait une large place à la soprano Camilla Tilling dans son disque Schumann. Ainsi, les tonalités originelles – et donc l’architecture du cycle – sont conservées. Les voix se mêlent et leur dialogue rappelle que ces lieder furent offerts à Clara comme un bouquet en cadeau de mariage.
Les interprètes font une lecture amoureuse de ces poèmes empruntés à Goethe, Rückert ou Burns. Tous deux savourent chaque consonne et font sonner les poèmes dans une prononciation parfaite (goûtez la répétition ô combien sensuelle du Kuss par Camilla Tilling dans la Lotosblume, aussi troublante que celle de Margaret Price) et du récit (les épisodes successifs du Hochländers Abschied prennent vie avec Christian Gerhaher, virtuose de la nuance).
