Rock and roll attitude est ce qu’on appelle un disque d’auteur. Dix chansons écrites et composées par Michel Berger. Il y a du rythme, des ballades et des textes intelligents. Pourtant, l’interprète de cet album n’est autre que Johnny Hallyday. Le rocker n’était-il pas en passe d’être has been ? « Quand sa vie n’est plus mise en scène / Ca lui fait peur » dit-il dans la première chanson « Le chanteur abandonné ». Le disque possède un son moderne pour le Johnny de l’époque ; avec un soupçon de rock’n’roll dans «Equipe de nuit » ou « Pendue à mon cou ». Michel Berger fait enregistrer Johnny sous la houlette de sa fidèle équipe musicale : Jannick Top (basse), Claude Engel (guitare) et Jean-Pierre Janiaud l’indispensable mixeur. Rock and roll attitude doit également sa qualité supérieure à un chef d’œuvre comme il y en a peu dans l’œuvre de Johnny : « Quelque chose de Tennessee ». La voix rauque de Johnny mêlée aux mots de Nathalie Baye vous transporte dans un quelque part indéfini. « Quand le cœur de la ville s’est endormi, il flotte encore Tennessee ». Ou Johnny.
