Alors que personne n'attendait rien de Paramore, groupe emo rock américain au succès un peu trop calibré, voici que le désormais trio se permet de tout remettre en cause et sort un quasi chef d'oeuvre avec son quatrième album. Le fait que celui ci porte le nom du groupe indique clairement qu'il s'agit pour Hayley Williams et ses serviteurs d'un nouveau départ. Telle une Gwen Stefani chez No Doubt, Hayley Williams est devenue sans conteste le leader de Paramore, et ce pour le plus grand bien de tous.
Fini le rock alternatif aux relents de punk pop adolescent, le nouveau Paramore ne mange pas de cette guimauve. Les dix-sept titres et quatorze chansons (une fois soustraits trois interludes) de Paramore sont tout simplement le présent du rock. Certes ce n'est pas un rock graisseux mais plutôt un pop rock énergique, magnifié par des nappes de claviers qui sont la marque du son du nouveau Paramore.
Hayley Williams prend des intonations de vraie diva rock que l'on ne lui connaissait pas et apparaît comme une nouvelle star du genre. Paramore fait désormais penser à un Republica ayant réussi ou à un croisement entre Garbage et No Doubt. Tonique sur « Daydreaming » et « Fast in My Car » au potentiel évident, Hayley Williams se fait caressante avec « (One of Those) Crazy Girls » que l'on sent autobiographique. Paramore ne doit pas non plus être réduit à sa figure de proue, et c'est le trio tout entier qui montre les crocs sur « Anklebiters » et « Proof » qui sont de véritables brûlots aux guitares tranchantes.
Paramore est un nouveau groupe et certainement le meilleur de sa catégorie, qui se permet même de sortir des sentiers battus avec un « Future » final et ambitieux de quasi huit minutes d'explorations sonores. De l'adolescence à l'âge adulte, Paramore vient de franchir un cap et de rejoindre d'un coup la cohorte des géants du rock.
