Avec les royalties de son succès, Prince avait entamé l'année 1985 par la construction de son studio, Paisley Park. Il prenait son public à contre-pied en enregistrant un album éloigné de son naked funk : le pop et psychédélique Around The World In A Day, moins sexuel et plus spirituel. Un claqument de doigt plus tard, il passe au projet suivant : un autre long métrage ! A l'opposé de Purple Rain, Under The Cherry Moon joue la carte du classieux et n'est pas soutenu par une véritable bande originale. Prince préfère en effet publier un nouvel album (incluant les titres du film) en mars 1986. Intitulé Parade, il est surtout tracté par un infernal et tubesque single de funk minimaliste : Kiss. L’ensemble de l’opus, toujours aussi puissamment produit par son altesse princière, slalome comme à l’accoutumée entre les styles (funk pur, jazz fusion, pop psychée et soul moderne) et les ambiances (groovy ou langoureuses). Parade a beau être sorti au beau milieu des années 80, décennie aux sonorités et aux productions bien typées, il passe pourtant brillement l’épreuve du temps grâce à un son toujours aussi moderne. © MD/Qobuz

Descriptif de l'album

Avec les royalties de son succès, Prince avait entamé l'année 1985 par la construction de son studio, Paisley Park. Il prenait son public à contre-pied en enregistrant un album éloigné de son naked funk : le pop et psychédélique Around The World In A Day, moins sexuel et plus spirituel. Un claqument de doigt plus tard, il passe au projet suivant : un autre long métrage ! A l'opposé de Purple Rain, Under The Cherry Moon joue la carte du classieux et n'est pas soutenu par une véritable bande originale. Prince préfère en effet publier un nouvel album (incluant les titres du film) en mars 1986. Intitulé Parade, il est surtout tracté par un infernal et tubesque single de funk minimaliste : Kiss. L’ensemble de l’opus, toujours aussi puissamment produit par son altesse princière, slalome comme à l’accoutumée entre les styles (funk pur, jazz fusion, pop psychée et soul moderne) et les ambiances (groovy ou langoureuses). Parade a beau être sorti au beau milieu des années 80, décennie aux sonorités et aux productions bien typées, il passe pourtant brillement l’épreuve du temps grâce à un son toujours aussi moderne. © MD/Qobuz

Le Prince des années 80

Dans la famille funk, Prince Rogers Nelson, qui a nous a quittés il y a cinq ans, en avril 2016, fut un genre à lui seul. En presque 40 ans de carrière, il a réussi à mêler l’héritage des pères fondateurs (James Brown, Sly Stone et George Clinton) à des influences aussi bien rock’n’roll qu’électroniques voire jazz. Un groove exubérant et bluffant qui brilla essentiellement entre 1978 et 1988…

Tim Burton en 10 albums

Qu’il tourne en prises de vues réelles ou en stop motion, Tim Burton a construit en plus de trente ans un monde cinématographique où le merveilleux poétique côtoie le gothique et l’humour macabre. À quelques exceptions près, c’est le compositeur Danny Elfman qui l’a épaulé dans cette aventure, formant un duo symbiotique : sans les images de Burton, la musique de Elfman n’aurait pas la même saveur et vice versa, ce qu’ils ont encore prouvé en 2019 avec le bouleversant “Dumbo”.

Sly complètement Stone

Avec l’album “There's a Riot Goin' On”, Sly Stone et sa Family embarquaient le funk dans l'Amérique chahutée des 70’s. Voici l’histoire d’un disque qui a bien failli ne jamais sortir, enregistré avec mille peines par un Sly devenu parano, junkie et alcoolo dans une villa de Los Angeles, la bande-son d’une descente en enfer considérée aujourd’hui comme son chef-d’œuvre.
