Cerveau des Kinks donc grand génie de l’écriture pop et rock, Ray Davies ne s’ennuie pas lorsqu’il s’agit de continuer sa route en solo. Un an après l’album Americana, voilà qu’il livre le second volume, Our Country : Americana Act 2. Une fois de plus, Davies fait appel aux Jayhawks – maîtres de l’americana depuis le milieu des années 80 – pour l’accompagner en studio et célébrer un nouvel hommage à son pays d’adoption, les Etats-Unis. Our Country : Americana Act 2 présente 19 nouvelles chansons, dont certaines sont des relectures de ses propres classiques et agencées en chapitres. Une ouverture très patriotique avec Our Country et The Invaders où Ray Davies se contente surtout de parler de son rapport à l’histoire américaine, à la musique et à sa vie. Le cœur même de l’album met en valeur la diversité des Etats-Unis qui fascine tant le Britannique élevé au rang de Chevalier par la reine Élisabeth II fin 2016. Un retour dans les années 50 avec Back in the Day, la paternité sur Bringing Up Baby, les groupies dangereuses de Minneapolis ou le souvenir agréable de la Louisiane sur Louisiana Sky.
