Les albums qui marquent un recul face à la célébrité sont rarement aussi effacés que le troisième album de Norah Jones, Not Too Late, mais cette discrétion est tout à fait caractéristique de la plus douce des chanteuses/compositrices. Ni replié sur lui-même, ni aliénant, Not Too Late est plutôt l’abdication consciente de sa position confortable de chanteuse de charme en faveur de l’art. Dans sa majeure partie, l'album s'écoute comme un livre de croquis qui retracerait comment Norah et Lee Alexander ont mis au point cette progression. Plutôt que d’être le résultat de ces expériences, Not Too Late est un tableau final qui en capture le processus, et par ce même opus, l’artiste revendique clairement sa démarche artistique.
