Avec ce double album qui parait en octobre 1977, Carlos Santana mélange enregistrements live et studio avec notamment une étonnante reprise du génial She’s Not There des Zombies qui grimpera au sommet des charts. Surtout, le virtuose de la guitare mélange ici tout ce qu’il sait faire : des rythmes latinos, du rock teinté de blues et du jazz fusion. Des styles qui font alors son succès dans cet alliage inédit. Côté chansons, le mélange est aussi de mise avec des titres de toutes ses périodes : Black Magic Woman, Soul Sacrifice, Europa… En cette fin des années 70, Santana est alors une star qui a su charmer le public rock mais aussi le jeune public jazz. Mention spéciale aux deux percussionnistes José "Chepito" Areas (pour les titres live) et Pete Escovedo (pour les titres studio) qui enflamment ce Moonflower d’un bout à l’autre. © CM/Qobuz

La nu soul en 10 albums

Au milieu des 90’s, alors que le hip-hop vit son âge d’or, la soul entame aussi sa révolution. Avec Erykah Badu, D’Angelo, Jill Scott et quelques autres, le genre retrouve la classe, la sobriété et le raffinement qui animaient les albums de Marvin Gaye, Curtis Mayfield ou Roberta Flack. Après les années de règne du R&B sirupeux ultra-commercial, la nu soul, nettement plus underground, ravive la flame de la soul originelle, dans ses arrangements comme dans ses textes. Un mouvement bref mais hautement influent.

Fleetwood Mac, la période blues

Il y a deux Fleetwood Mac, celui des années 1960 aux couleurs blues porté par l’un des plus grands guitaristes de sa génération, Peter Green, et l’autre, un groupe de pop-rock qui deviendra l’une des formations les plus acclamées de son époque. Leur album de 1977, “Rumours”, reste, quarante ans après, l’une des dix meilleures ventes de tous les temps. Mais la première période du groupe, moins connue, fut tout aussi captivante.

Iggy et les Stooges, l'aube punk

En 1969, une bande d’auto-proclamés crétins dynamite le rock’n’roll à coup de distorsion et de textes nihilistes. A la tête de ces Stooges, Iggy Pop, une sorte de Nijinski habité et révolté, destiné à devenir le parrain du punk rock à venir.
