Bernard Herrmann (1911-1975) a beaucoup composé pour Alftred Hitchcock (La Mort aux Trousses, Vertigo, Psycho...), mais aussi Orson Welles (Citizen Kane) ou Martin Scorsese (Taxi Driver). En tant que chef de l'orchestre symphonique de CBS, il a écrit pour les différents genres, notamment ce Moby Dick, pièce vocale conçue comme une cantate, un bon compromis entre la forme opératique et la forme purement orchestrale de concert. la Sinfonietta fut créée en 1941 par John Barbirolli, et a servi de modèle au début des années 60 pour la musique du film Psycho. Michael Schonwandt et L'Orchestre National Danois interprètent ces deux oeuvres (la seconde en premier enregistrement mondial), et en restituent toute la force avec vigueur et enthousiasme. Une découverte !
