Lauer

German producer, DJ, and label owner Phillip Lauer (aka Lauer) is known for his electronic dance music that combines classic deep house with '80s synth pop and Italo-disco influences. Lauer first began releasing 12" singles in 2000, and made his full-length debut in 2012 with Phillips. He also formed the neo-disco/house duo Tuff City Kids with Gerd Janson, and the pair have become especially prolific as remixers. Janson and Lauer also collaborated with Mark Barrott for the Balearic project Talamanca System. Along with running his Brontosaurus label, Lauer has released several solo albums of melodic, club-driven tracks, including 2015's Borndom and 2022's Cyclone Days. Black Spuma, a more left-field project with frequent collaborator Fabrizio Mammarella, released its debut album, No No No, in 2023. Hailing from Frankfurt, Germany, Lauer started experimenting with electronic production in his teens. It was under the Plenty Ammo moniker that he made his debut, releasing several cassette-only sets on the In Between and Real Soon labels, as well as spinning at the storied Robert Johnson club. More tracks followed on Separe Recordings and Punkt Music. He issued remixes and collaborated as the duo Arto Mwambe with CB Funk. In 2006, he founded his own Brontosaurus label, and in 2012, he released his debut full-length, Phillips, on Running Back. A second album, the moody, synth-heavy Borndom, arrived in 2015 on Permanent Vacation and featured contributions by singers Jasnau and Ela. Along with Running Back head Gerd Janson, he released numerous singles and remixes as Tuff City Kids, with debut album Adoldesscent appearing on Permanent Vacation in 2016. The self-titled album by Talamanca System, the downtempo collaboration between Lauer, Janson, and Mark Barrott, was released by International Feel in 2017. Lauer returned to Running Back for Power, his third solo album, in 2018. Answers 2 Trouble arrived in 2021 on Permanent Vacation and featured guest appearances by Fabrizio Mammarella, Dena, and Jasnau. In 2022, he again paired with singer Dena for two songs on Cyclone Days. Two solo EPs, Otto Zero and Harmony Unit, appeared in 2023, as well as Based on Boss, Vol. 1 with Johannes Albert. Black Spuma, one of Lauer's collaborations with Mammarella, made its full-length debut with No No No.
