Avec ce cinquième album, Enzo Enzo continue à explorer sa veine jazzy latino, mais bénéficie d’un accompagnement musical au style un peu plus rock que précédemment, d’un dynamisme appréciable. Des titres à la tonalité pop rock comme « A toute berzingue » ou « Le Grand blanc », avec des détours louchant du côté de la bossa (« Ils s’aiment ») apportent à cet album une tonalité agréable et touchante, bien que le filon de la chanson sentimentale ne constitue pas pour Enzo Enzo un renouvellement particulièrement bouleversant.
Le Jour d’à Côté est un album en tous points irréprochables, mais il contribue à faire un peu regretter qu’Enzo Enzo ne se décide pas à nous servir autre chose.
