Entre une courte période hippie (Jeune homme, 1968) et l’opus engagé écrit par Philippe Labro (Vie, 1970), la riche discographie de Johnny comprend cet album énergique, à la croisée du blues et du rock psychédélique. Reflet d’une époque où le rock commence à exploser, ce Johnny 69 débute par le morceau Rivière… Ouvre ton lit, dans lequel une rivière est dépeinte sous les traits d'une femme diabolique. A travers ce titre, on devine rapidement que les paroles tiennent ici une place aussi importante que la musique. On les doit en partie à Gilles Thibaut. Ce dernier frappe également fort dans des titres comme Réclamations (« Remboursez-moi/Je ne veux pas de ce monde-là ») ou Amen. L’autre parolier emblématique de l’album se nomme Chris Long. Il brille notamment une description touchante de l’enfance de Johnny, laquelle fut marquée par l’absence du père (Je suis né dans la rue). La présente édition a été conçue à partir des bandes multipistes originales et elle passe en revue tous les enregistrements studio de 1969, y compris le single Que je t’aime, arrangé par Jean-Claude Vannier. Sont incluses 40 minutes d’inédits, de maquettes, et de prises de voix alternatives. On trouvera également deux pépites, spécialement destinées aux cinéphiles : les versions françaises de chansons composées par Quincy Jones pour le western américain L’or de McKenna. ©Nicolas Magenham/Qobuz

Chronique
Entre une courte période hippie (Jeune homme, 1968) et l’opus engagé écrit par Philippe Labro (Vie, 1970), la riche discographie de Johnny comprend cet album énergique, à la croisée du blues et du rock psychédélique. Reflet d’une époque où le rock commence à exploser, ce Johnny 69 débute par le morceau Rivière… Ouvre ton lit, dans lequel une rivière est dépeinte sous les traits d'une femme diabolique. A travers ce titre, on devine rapidement que les paroles tiennent ici une place aussi importante que la musique. On les doit en partie à Gilles Thibaut. Ce dernier frappe également fort dans des titres comme Réclamations (« Remboursez-moi/Je ne veux pas de ce monde-là ») ou Amen. L’autre parolier emblématique de l’album se nomme Chris Long. Il brille notamment une description touchante de l’enfance de Johnny, laquelle fut marquée par l’absence du père (Je suis né dans la rue). La présente édition a été conçue à partir des bandes multipistes originales et elle passe en revue tous les enregistrements studio de 1969, y compris le single Que je t’aime, arrangé par Jean-Claude Vannier. Sont incluses 40 minutes d’inédits, de maquettes, et de prises de voix alternatives. On trouvera également deux pépites, spécialement destinées aux cinéphiles : les versions françaises de chansons composées par Quincy Jones pour le western américain L’or de McKenna. ©Nicolas Magenham/Qobuz
