Après sa superbe version des Variations Goldberg enregistrée pour Claves en 2004, le pianiste franco-suisse continue à s’investir, et même à s’engloutir, dans la musique de Bach, même si son répertoire poursuit une trajectoire parallèle avec Beethoven, Schubert, Schumann ou, dernièrement, les sonates pour violon et piano d’Ernest Bloch. Voilà plusieurs années que Cédric Pescia polit son interprétation du Clavier bien tempéré qu’il donne partiellement en récital, mais aussi volontiers intégralement en deux concerts « marathons Bach ». Mais ce recueil n’est nullement exclusif, puisqu’il continue à jouer les Variations Goldberg un peu partout, ainsi que les Partitas et les Suites françaises qui feront sans aucun doute l’objet de ses prochains enregistrements.
Cette nouvelle version des deux volumes du Clavier bien tempéré parue à La Dolce Volta est à la fois épurée, chaleureuse, minimaliste parfois. Pescia s’y montre analytique, en construisant rigoureusement chaque prélude et fugue, tout en étant expressif au gré d’un toucher qui a du corps, du grain et de la pulpe. Son pianisme éloquent, fluide et volubile est toujours au service de l’expression juste qui sait parfaitement doser l’articulation et le legato. C’est une vision totalement pianistique qui ne cherche pas du tout à être « historiquement renseignée » mais qui, bien au contraire, exploite tout ce qu’un instrument moderne peut apporter à cette musique intemporelle. On reste une nouvelle fois confondu devant les visées pédagogiques d’une telle somme d’écriture, savante et sévère, qui parvient à déboucher sur tant d’expression et à s’écouter en dehors de toute pratique musicale. © François Hudry/Qobuz
