Pinky Pinky

A trio of friends who grew up playing music together, Los Angeles' Pinky Pinky deliver a freewheeling mix of indie pop, garage, and psych rock that they introduced with their self-titled 2017 EP and expanded on with their 2019 full-length Turkey Dinner. Pinky Pinky's members began playing music at an early age. Drummer/vocalist Anastasia Sanchez's father encouraged her to play drums and guitar as a child; bassist Eva Chambers learned piano at age six and played keyboard in a band with her sisters while she was still a preteen, and guitarist Isabelle Fields quit violin to play guitar at age 12. Fields and Chambers began playing music together during middle school, and Sanchez joined them once she and Chambers met in high school. The trio started writing songs that drew on a wide array of influences, including Fiona Apple, David Bowie, Yma Sumac, Frank Zappa, and Britney Spears. After playing their first show at downtown L.A.'s MOCA Museum, Pinky Pinky gigged consistently and eventually signed a deal with Hanni El Khatib's label Innovative Leisure. Their self-titled debut EP appeared on the label in April 2017 and boasted a garage rock-meets-girl group pop sound that earned comparisons to the Growlers and the Shangri-Las. By the time of 2018's more eclectic Hot Tears EP, all three members of Pinky Pinky had graduated from high school. To make their debut album, the trio worked with El Khatib and co-producer Jonny Bell. Turkey Dinner appeared on Innovative Leisure in June 2019.
