Lorsque l'auditeur dépose Dig Your Own Hole sur sa platine, il doit s'attendre à recevoir une déflagration sonore faite de claquements de caisse claire, de sonorités hurlantes, de mélodie électro-électriques sur un tempo détonnant. De « Block Rockin' Beats » à « Setting Sun », la tension ne se relâche pas une seconde pendant les cinq premiers morceaux. La bouillonnante mixture ne s'apaisera qu'avec la voix de Noel Gallagher qui met fin à ce premier mouvement explosif ressemblant aux mixes live du groupe.
La deuxième partie du disque est plus variée, quoique tout aussi réussie. Il y a d'abord le très répétitif « It Doesn't Matter », qui a pris un coup de vieux, puis le funky « Lost in the K-Hole », dont la basse groove habilement, et enfin le resplendissant « Where Do I Begin ». Ce dernier titre illustre magnifiquement le talent de The Chemical Brothers à transformer une mélodie apaisante et la douce voix de Beth Orton en une bombe electro-rock.
Le disque s'achève avec la contribution de Jonathan Donahue, de Mercury Rev, sur « The Private Psychedelic Reel », à l'intro crépusculaire, et dont le sample de sitar est le signal d'un délire psychédélique long-format à la sauce Big Beat. Tout est bon dans ce deuxième album qui assoit la célébrité du duo dans le monde.
