La lecture de ce luxueux casting était déjà un rêve humide de mélomane : un ex-Byrds (David Crosby), deux ex-Buffalo Springfield (Stephen Stills et Neil Young) et un ex-Hollies (Graham Nash). Album de chevet de la génération Woodstock et sommet d’un certain country-rock, parrain de l’americana, l’album Déjà Vu est avant tout un must d’harmonies vocales. Chacun apporte ici sa pierre à un édifice tantôt acoustique et vaporeux, parfois plus nerveux et foncièrement rock. Car Déjà Vu est davantage la compilation de quatre fortes personnalités qu’un réel effort de groupe. En invitant leur « ami » Neil Young, CS&N élargissent la palette proposée sur leur précédent opus de 1969. Le résultat est ici d’un tout autre calibre. Avec Teach Your Children et Our House, Nash est l’expert de la folk song countrysante, légère et douce. Sur Carry On qui ouvre ce chef d’œuvre, Stills orchestre un génial assemblage de guitares acoustiques et électriques. Quant à Neil le Loner, ses dons d’écriture sont époustouflants sur le mélancolique Helpless. Super-groupe sur le papier, CSN&Y dessine là un arc-en-ciel harmonique qui irradie les musiques roots américaines. © MZ

La lecture de ce luxueux casting était déjà un rêve humide de mélomane : un ex-Byrds (David Crosby), deux ex-Buffalo Springfield (Stephen Stills et Neil Young) et un ex-Hollies (Graham Nash). Album de chevet de la génération Woodstock et sommet d’un certain country-rock, parrain de l’americana, l’album Déjà Vu est avant tout un must d’harmonies vocales. Chacun apporte ici sa pierre à un édifice tantôt acoustique et vaporeux, parfois plus nerveux et foncièrement rock. Car Déjà Vu est davantage la compilation de quatre fortes personnalités qu’un réel effort de groupe. En invitant leur « ami » Neil Young, CS&N élargissent la palette proposée sur leur précédent opus de 1969. Le résultat est ici d’un tout autre calibre. Avec Teach Your Children et Our House, Nash est l’expert de la folk song countrysante, légère et douce. Sur Carry On qui ouvre ce chef d’œuvre, Stills orchestre un génial assemblage de guitares acoustiques et électriques. Quant à Neil le Loner, ses dons d’écriture sont époustouflants sur le mélancolique Helpless. Super-groupe sur le papier, CSN&Y dessine là un arc-en-ciel harmonique qui irradie les musiques roots américaines. © MZ
