Avec son sixième album, Gregory Porter excelle une fois encore dans le dosage parfait entre jazz, soul, rhythm’n’blues, pop et gospel. En plus d’être doté d’une voix de pur velours (tellement cliché, mais tellement vrai), le Californien qui connaît chaque recoin de la Great Black Music est aussi un auteur, un vrai. Et par les temps (troublés) qui courent, sa plume souvent synonyme d’espoir et de lumière génère des bains de jouvence sonore qui font du bien. Comme sur Revival Song, sorte d’hymne néo-gospel qui embrase l’âme et déchaîne le corps. Cette sensation de bien-être est la même lorsque Porter enfile son costard de crooner lover comme sur If Love Is Overrated ou qu’il marche sur les brisées de Marvin Gaye et George Benson avec Faith in Love. Produit avec classe par Troy Miller (Laura Mvula, Jamie Cullum, Emeli Sande), All Rise propulse surtout le chanteur américain vers davantage d’universalité.
