À propos

Redoutable guitar-hero ayant influencé des hordes d’autres redoutables guitar-heroes, Carlos Santana offre une palette musicale large au possible. Après des débuts au sein de groupes de rock latino et de funk plus ou moins psyché, le musicien d’origine mexicaine se lance sous son nom en fusionnant rock psychédélique et funk torride et décroche avec son groupe virtuose un succès inattendu lors du festival de Woodstock. Avec ce deuxième album qui parait en septembre 1970 chez CBS, la richesse de son univers musical prend des formes multiples apportant sa pierre à l’édifice jazz-rock/jazz-fusion qui nait alors un peu partout. Le lyrisme de son jeu de guitare et la chaleur apportée par celui de ses musiciens aboutissent à des merveilles comme Black Magic Woman (en fait une reprise d’un morceau de Peter Green pour Fleetwood Mac), Oye Como Va (relecture sexy d’un titre de Tito Puente), ou bien encore Incident At Neshabur (sublime instrumental de latin jazz électrique qui embrase les oreilles avant de s’éteindre délicatement dans un groove feutré). Aux frontières du rock psyché, du funk en fusion, du blues habité, de la salsa dépoussiérée et du jazz branché sur 10.000 volts, Abraxas est un disque défricheur, un album en avance sur son temps… © MD/Qobuz
