Le premier opus d'Eminem aura notamment eu pour effet de relancer la réputation de producteur de Dr Dre, générant une énorme attente pour le second opus solo de ce dernier, 2001. Sur ce successeur au classique West Coast que constitue The Chronic, tremplin de la carrière d'un certain Snoop Dogg, Dre repousse ses propres limites, s'ouvrant de nouveaux horizons avec l'utilisation de sources musicales plus variées. Côté vocal, c'est le trio Dre, Snoop et Eminem qui domine largement un album porté par les singles imparables que sont "Still Dre", "Forgot About Dre" ou "The Next Episode".
