A little solo stint for Martin Courtney. The small, anecdotal solo record that the Real Estate bandleader has just released is a total pop delight. With its crystalline guitars and vocal harmonies, Many Moons is redolent of, first and foremost, The Byrds, but also The Beach Boys, The Left Banke, and, a little closer to home, Teenage Fanclub. The clear bloodline to the 1960s makes this little album a delicious melodic concoction, well-honouring both Real Estate and the classic sounds of the past… Anyway, Many Moons is a superb contemporary pop record, more than convincing in its quest for the perfect 3 minute song.
