Nick Mason's Saucerful of Secrets

Formed in 2018 with the purpose of breathing a new lease of life into Pink Floyd’s formative psychedelic back catalogue, Nick Mason’s Saucerful of Secrets takes its name from his former group’s 1968 sophomore album. Despite being fronted by Pink Floyd’s drummer and co-founder, Nick Mason, the band was actually the brainchild of Blockheads guitarist Lee Harris and bassist Guy Pratt, who had approached Mason with the idea. With Spandau Ballet’s Gary Kemp assuming the role of lead vocalist and guitarist, and keyboardist Dom Beken completing the lineup, they made their live debut in May 2018 at Camden’s iconic Dingwalls venue, swiftly following this up with a series of relatively intimate shows in the UK, Europe and North America. Notably, during their 2018 show at New York’s Beacon Theatre, fellow Pink Floyd co-founder Roger Waters made a special guest appearance, lending his vocals to the group’s rendition of “Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun”. With the band’s plans for a 2020 tour scuppered by the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the events industry, they postponed the dates to 2021. Nonetheless, they managed to release their first live album and DVD, Live at the Roundhouse, in September 2020, made up of recordings from two back-to-back shows in May 2019. Over the course of 22 tracks, the LP found the group revisiting a range of songs from Pink Floyd’s early discography, including their debut single “Arnold Layne” and the obscure cut “Vegetable Man” as well as songs from six of the band’s first seven albums. It entered the UK Albums Chart at number five.
