Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin
Text in englischer Sprache verfügbarTranslated into English Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin means the Academy for Ancient Music of Berlin and is often referred to simply as Akamus. At its core Akamus has about 30 musicians who perform under the direction of four concert masters, Midori Seiler, Stephan Mai, Bernhard Forck and Georg Kallweit although the ensemble also makes extensive use of guest conductors. The orchestra's recordings have won widespread critical acclaim for its commitment to recording outstanding performances of classical works. This dedication to quality has been recognised by the numerous accolades and awards bestowed upon Akamus and in 2011 the orchestra's performance of Italian arias with Cecilia Bartoli earned them a Grammy Award.
Although best known for its chamber music recitals Akamus, is also capable of performing full scale symphonic works and as well as frequently appearing at premier European classical music venues, they also tour the world and have performed throughout Asia and the Americas. Being based in the German capital the orchestra has a well-attended annual concert series which it performs in Berlin's famed Konzerhaus Berlin.
