Gregory Porters sechstes Album ist eine weitere, perfekte Mischung aus Jazz, Soul, Rhythm’n’Blues, Pop und Gospel. Nicht nur eine samtig-weiche Stimme (ach, ist das klischeehaft, und doch stimmt es) hat der Kalifornier zu bieten, der sich auch in den hintersten Ecken der Great Black Music auskennt, sondern er ist auch ein Autor, ein wahrhaftiger noch dazu. Und in diesen (traurigen) Zeiten wirken seine Hoffnung und Licht spendenden Texte mit diesem wohltuenden Klang wie eine Verjüngungskur. Der Revival Song etwa, eine Art Neo-Gospel-Hymne, die Seelen entflammt und Körper ins Toben bringt, ist einer dieser Songs. Dieses Wonnegefühl entsteht auch, wenn Porter in die Rolle des croonenden Lovers schlüpft, wie zum Beispiel in If Love Is Overrated oder wenn er mit Faith in Love in die Fußstapfen von Marvin Gaye und George Benson tritt. Dank Troy Millers (Laura Mvula, Jamie Cullum, Emeli Sande) erstklassiger Produktion erlangt der amerikanische Sänger mit All Rise eine noch nie dagewesene Popularität.
