Maxence Cyrin

Born on January 30, 1971 in Besançon, France, Maxence Cyrin is a Paris-based pianist and composer. He is influenced by neo-classical and minimalist classical music, as well as by pop-rock music. After studying classical piano at a conservatory, he was introduced to electronic pop and techno. Between 1989 and 1992, he recorded several self-produced albums under his own name and pseudonyms like Brain in a Box, Z Koncept, Max da Fly, Mental MXC and Zyklus. He released an album of solo piano music in 1995 entitled Instants. Cyrin signed to DJ Laurent Garnier’s F Communications (FCom) label, releasing Modern Rhapsodies, a solo piano album, in 2005. The album featured covers of songs by modern electronic bands like Depeche Mode, Massive Attack, Moby and Aphex Twin. He also composed original music for silent films including Jean Epstein’s Coeur fidèle (1923). In 2009, he released the album Novö Piano, the first volume in a body of covers devoted to tracks from other pop, rock and electro groups. Novö Piano II was issued in 2015, followed by Novö Piano Live (2018). Working outside of the Novö Piano series, Cyrin released the albums The Fantasist (2012) and Nocturnes (2014). He toured the United States in 2016 and appeared at the Montreal Jazz Festival in 2017, where he performed the Aphex Twin Variations suite. In addition to his recorded work, Cyrin composed music for haute couture fashion shows. In 2020, he issued the Aurora album on Warner Classics.
