As a student of Gil, Calvo and Fuertes, this Spanish composer learned piano, violin, flute, composition and harmony. Caballero was also a student of Vega, Eslava and Albeniz at the conservatory of music in Madrid. Until his eyesight failed him Caballero was a prolific and talented composer of dramatic musical scores with spoken dialogue with national flavorings (zarzuelas). He was able to compose, perform and/or conduct his works in Cuba, Lisbon, Madrid, and many places in South America. Caballero also composed a number of sacred works including masses.
