Uno de los artefactos más extraños de la discografía de Prince, The Versace Experience: Prelude 2 Gold fue originalmente concebido como un cassette promocional para ser distribuido durante un desfile de modas de Versace en Paris en 1995, poco antes de la edición de The Gold Experience. La intención era la de generar publicidad para el nuevo disco sin revelar todo su contenido. Así, incluía remezclas exclusivas de tres de los cuatro sencillos del álbum, fragmentos de otras canciones del disco o de temas de New Power Generation y Madhouse, instrumentales incompletos y a Prince susurrando "Versace" por aquí y por allá. En resumen, un documento más curioso que interesante.
