El cielo es bastante gris, casi antracita. Es el abono ideal para hacer crecer un poco más esta rebosante escena del revival post-punk que agita el planeta indie desde principios de la década de 2010. Pero, ¿cómo sacar la cabeza de una melé ya muy densa en la que se empujan entre ellas las bandas Girl Band, Fontaines DC, Shame, Dry Cleaning y otros mil grupos armados con guitarras cuadradas y vocalistas más cercanos a la escansión que a la canción? Para conseguirlo, Yard Act lleva los marcadores del género y las influencias predecibles (The Fall, Gang of Four, Wire, los primeros Talking Heads) por caminos a menudo inesperados. Mejor aún, no se limitan a ser una bola eléctrica de nervios o un viejo escupitajo en la cara de una sociedad (post-Brexit) que va mal. No, no, Yard Act utiliza su rabia para encontrar diferentes formas de expresión. The Overload, el brillante primer álbum de este cuarteto de Leeds, se cierra con el tempo casi apacible de 100% Endurance. Al micrófono, James Smith es un digno heredero del dalai lama del post-punk, el difunto Mark E. Smith de The Fall, con una pizca de groove.
