Detroit rapper Peezy spent over a year in prison on racketeering charges, and emerged in early 2021 sounding more powerful and charged than ever. The 21-track project Only Built 4 Diamond Links finds Peezy remembering his days of dealing drugs and hustling in the streets with a precise attention to detail, and reflecting on how those times took him through prison and into a new life trying to stay away from destructive behavior. The heavy atmosphere of Only Built 4 Diamond Links is driven by the intensity of Peezy's storytelling bars, and how he fits his flows perfectly into the streamlined, 808-heavy beats. Among the album's many highlights are the furiously delivered sex rhymes of "I Told Her," which features a cameo from Chicago drill superstar G Herbo, and the thoughtful, old-school-flavored tale of struggle "Can't Explain" featuring West Coast legend Mozzy.
