Made up of a handful of veterans of the New York post-punk scene, the supergroup Muzz unites Paul Banks (leader of Interpol), Matt Barrick (from The Walkmen and Jonathan Fire*Eater) and Josh Kaufman (from Bonny Light Horseman, The National and The War On Drugs). It’s unclear why they chose that particular name as, unfortunately, it may cause some confusion with another famous band, Muse. Apart from that unfortunate coincidence, this album is highly enjoyable and it’s no surprise that it was released under the prestigious Matador label. It has the same unique melancholy that used to run through Interpol’s electronic melodies, but here, there is a softness that prevails, like on the beautiful opener, Bad Feeling, which kicks off this adventure, the majestic Broken Tambourine and the ethereal Chubby Checker.
