Con su dúo Blue Lab Beats, NK-OK (Namali Kwaten) y Mr DM (David Mrakpor) recorren el planeta y combaten con sonidos y rimas. Después de varios EP y ya dos álbumes, el tándem londinense sigue escalando el Everest del groove por todas sus caras con Motherland Journey, editado por el sello Blue Note. Groove de los de antes (Herbie Hancock y Roy Ayers para el jazz fusión, A Tribe Called Quest y J Dilla para el hip-hop), ambiente ultraurbano que a veces recuerda a la escena inglesa del acid jazz de los 90, furia afrobeat (el tema homónimo Motherland Journey contiene incluso un sample de la voz de Fela Kuti en Everything Scatter) y efluvios electrónicos. Un enfoque de 360º que a veces puede resultar confuso pero que mantiene un eje rítmico ultra sólido. NK-OK y Mr DM han invitado a su orgía a algunos nombres de moda (la estrella de la escena afrobeat ghanesa Ghetto Boy, las nuevas voces fuertes del neo soul y el R&B londinense como Ego Ella May, Pip Millet y Tiana Major9...) y también deslizan algunas piezas instrumentales para mostrar su virtuosismo. En 2020, Blue Lab Beats había revisitado brillantemente el Montara del vibrafonista Bobby Hutcherson en la compilación Blue Note Re:imagined.
