Los melómanos que más curiosidad tienen conocen el talento de Thierry Fischer, hoy director musical de la Orquesta Sinfónica de Utah. Para el sello Hyperion algunos años atrás, grabó una notable versión de La Tempestad de Frank Martin, tras unos no menos valiosos programas D'Indy y Honegger. Con la BBC National Orchestra of Wales, realizó algunas monografías dedicadas a Stravinsky. Siente también fuertes afinidades por Mahler cuya Sinfonía Titán fue publicada por el sello Reference Recordings. Del universo de Mahler, Thierry Fischer tiene y desarrolla une visión clara, con curvas ligeras, que posee una transparencia y un ímpetu sorprendentes. El director se basa evidentemente en la bellísima materia sonora de la Utah Symphony, acostumbrada a este repertorio: Maurice Abravanel, director histórico de la orquesta, realizó durante los Años 1970 una de las primerísimas integrales discográficas de las sinfonías de Mahler en el continente americano (su competidor directo era Bernstein con Nueva York para CBS). La orquesta supo mantener la luminosidad diáfana típica de las grabaciones de Abravanel.
