En 2011 se dio a conocer que los cuatro miembros originales de The Darkness estaban por grabar un nuevo disco, y el resultado, Hot Cakes (lanzado en 2012), sin duda merece ser saludado con los cuernos del heavy metal bien en alto. El número de ritmos de blues-rock estilo AC/DC presentes en el álbum se corresponde en igual medida con el de melodías resplandecientes y certeras, diseñadas especialmente para encender la célula feliz de tu cerebro. Temas como el propulsivo "Nothin's Gonna Stop Us" y el entusiasta "Everybody Have A Good Time" son himnos deliciosamente contagiosos que recuerdan al Queen más pop/rock de los años ochenta. De la misma forma, números épicos a la manera de Boston como "Forbidden Love" o la apasionada "Love Is Not The Answer", son canciones de amor sorprendentemente sinceras que se te quedan pegadas en la cabeza como aquellos viejos éxitos de la era del hair metal y MTV.
