For those who like memorable melodies, sparkling harmonies, and appealing rhythms, this disc of Malcolm Arnold conducting the London Philharmonic in his complete British dances for orchestra will prove exceedingly delightful. With both sets of four English Dances, one set each of the four Irish, Scottish, and Cornish Dances plus the eminently danceable but utterly unlikely Solitaire joining a Sarabande and a Polka, none of Arnold's thoroughly enjoyable dances are left off. Arnold, as skilled a conductor as he is an orchestrator, knows exactly how to get the most out of an orchestra, and his leadership clearly inspired the orchestra to give him its best effort.
